Supporting neurodiverse children during the festive period

This Christmas, Sky Kids has teamed up with award-winning singer-songwriter Paloma Faith and the Capital Children’s Choir to release ‘Silent Night, Gentle Light’. This reimagined version of the much-loved Christmas carol shines a poignant spotlight on the sensory challenges faced by neurodiverse children during the festive season.

The heartfelt song, with lyrics co-written by Nikki Saunders, creator of Ready Eddie Go!, and lead writer Joseph Morpurgo, gives voice to experiences that can make Christmas overwhelming for some children. From the discomfort of wearing scratchy festive jumpers to the necessity of ear defenders in noisy shops, the song emphasises ways to reduce sensory overload while embracing the joy and traditions that make Christmas special.

The single coincides with the release of the Christmas special of Ready Eddie Go!, airing on Sky Kids from 2nd December. This episode continues to explore the world of Eddie, a six-year-old autistic boy, as he navigates new experiences. The series aims to promote understanding and empathy by depicting the challenges and triumphs of everyday life for children like Eddie.

Aston spoke to Nikki Saunders, creator of Ready Eddie Go! and Lucy Murphy, director of kids content at Sky.
