The kids of today want their superpowers to help them clean up the planet

The days of children wanting to be a rockstar, or an astronaut are a thing of the past, with almost half of British youngsters setting their sights on a greener career path.

Sure, they may still want to be superheroes, but according to a new study by environmental design company Circular&Co., their super-power of choice has developed a contemporary twist. Forget the ability to fly or turn invisible, if they could over third (38%) of kids between the ages of 5 and 18 would save animals, while 14% want to clean up the oceans and 12% would stop all plastic manufacturing.

This shift isn’t entirely out of the blue, with schools already increasing the level of environmental education they offer. But children are also getting creative on how they learn about the big issues, with many of them learning from their favourite TV show (35%), social media (26%) and even cartoons (13%) nowadays.

Aston spoke to Dan Dicker, founder of Circular&Co.
