The summer’s top food trends revealed

Sainsbury’s latest Summer 2022 Trends Report has revealed the nation is ready to revamp their menu’s this summer. Using the latest trends, Sainsbury’s sales data, insights from a national survey and a range of food experts including food historian Seren Charrington-Hollins, Britain is set to travel around the world through their tastebuds.

Nostalgia never tasted so sweet as we’re reaching for our favourite foods from our childhood this summer with childhood cravings taking the top spot on the menu. Almost half (47%) of us are seeking nostalgic snacks and two in five (43%) are opting for desserts that remind us of happy memories. Over the last three years, online searches for classic desserts have skyrocketed, with Victoria sponge increasing by 574% and Neapolitan ice cream 218%. Those aged 25 to 34 are the most nostalgic with nearly 6 in 10 (58%) turning to familiar foods from their childhood when feeling stressed.

The Queen’s Jubilee is inspiring our tasty plans as over three quarters of the nation (76%) will be celebrating this Jubilee weekend with nearly a quarter (24%) spending it with friends and family at a BBQ, and a quarter (26%) opting for British or Jubilee Royal themed foods.
