Top ‘mood foods’ revealed

According to new research nearly nine in ten Brits (89%) use food to boost their mood.

Milk chocolate (38%), cakes (27%), biscuits (25%) and crisps (26%) are cited as the most popular mood-enhancing foods, but some people are also turning to more unusual foodstuff.

Ten percent reach for berries to improve their state of mind while 8% opt for dried fruit. The survey, conducted by Yakult, also found that 1 in 20 (5%) look for a boost from broccoli.

Food has a special place in many people’s hearts, especially at Christmas, but the research shows that most of us aren’t aware that what we eat has been scientifically proven to also affect our brain, and how we feel.
