TV moments that unite the nation
From Nessa and Smithy’s proposal in the much-anticipated Gavin and Stacey finale to gripping drama such as Mr Bates vs The Post Office, British TV has proved its still in its long-lasting golden era as audiences continue to turn to our much-love national broadcasters for the shows that bring us together, best reflect our lives on screen, and are most memorable. Our national broadcasters – the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and 5 – continue to reign with most-watched shows.
The way we watch TV is changing as more Britons turn to streaming, but in an age dominated by smartphones, streaming, and social media, one source of entertainment endures above all else: gathering around the television. Brits spend four and a half hours a day watching TV and videos, and 84% of that is on the TV set.
A new independent report, released to mark a successful first year for streaming platform Freely, titled The Heart of the Nation, reveals that British audiences still overwhelmingly turn to the UK’s public service broadcasters (PSBs) – that’s the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and 5 – for the TV moments that bring the nation together.
