There are many different things to consider when buying a home – from the quality of the neighbourhood and access to transport to the how much re-decoration or renovation is required. However, new research by Gas Safe Register has found that the general safety of the home, including the condition of the boiler and appliances, falls low on the list of priorities for most people.

When buying a home 27% of people said their single most important priority was to re-decorate rooms whose décor was not to their taste, while for 21% it was fitting a new kitchen or bathroom. Yet only 12% said they would fit a new boiler. This is despite the fact that 29% of people who have bought homes before have had to replace the boiler earlier than anticipated, due to faults or its age.

Aston spoke to Lucy Alexander, TV presenter and Scott Darroch, head of communications at gas safe register to help them reduce that stress by advising them what to look out for.
