What is your favourite chocolate?

Christmas in the UK is more than just food and festivities; it’s a season of quirky traditions, family moments, and lively debates—especially when it comes to chocolates. New research from Celebrations reveals what makes Christmas special, from favourite snacks to regional chocolate loyalties, with some sweet and surprising results.

Spending time with family tops the list of traditions for half of respondents, with 37% naming Christmas TV and movies as non-negotiable. For 19%, however, Christmas officially begins when the first tub of chocolates is opened, signalling the start of a sweet and nostalgic season.

Then there’s the classic argument over who gets the last chocolate—a heated topic for 11% of families. Falling out over the “golden treat” is a reality for nearly 10%, proving that sometimes, the final Bounty or Galaxy Caramel is worth the drama. Even broader traditions create tension, with 16% debating whether to open presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning and 14% disagreeing over which chocolate is the best. Hosting Christmas gatherings also causes friction, with 14% reluctant to take on the role or upset over alternating locations.
