World Sleep Day – Britain ranks bottom worldwide for restorative sleep
Britain has ranked bottom worldwide for restorative sleep in new global survey findings from the Sleep Clinic, ResMed, with one in eight adults never waking refreshed and a third exhausted several nights every week.
UK adults average just 3.6 nights per week where they wake feeling properly rested. Globally, that figure stands at 4.2. In countries such as Japan and China, it exceeds 4.6.
The scale of the problem is stark. One in eight adults (12%) say they get zero good nights’ sleep in an average week. At the other end of the spectrum, just 13% report waking refreshed all seven nights. For many, restorative sleep is the exception, not the rule.
