Would Brits rather have money than forge relationships?

Are we living in a materialistic world and is friendship in the UK dead?

New figures reveal almost half of Brits would rather pocket cash or a mystery prize than spend time with their friends, despite many admitting they often feel lonely.

To address the issue, this Friendship Month (September) people are being urged to start saying ‘yes’ to experiences and friendships over material things.

Just one in ten (10%) have said ‘yes’ to something new in the past week, with cost (33%) revealed as the biggest barrier holding people back from joining a community or activity group, followed by shyness (30%), and a fear of not fitting in (27%), according to figures by Oddfellows.

Aston spoke to happiness expert Dr Andy Cope and Jane Nelson, CEO of Oddfellows.
