6-year-olds have their own tablet as parents fear kids lack imagination

Almost 6 in 10 (57%) children aged 5-7 have their own tablet and 14% their own smartphone, with half (50%) playing games online – but what is the impact on young children and how they play?

New research reveals that a third (32%) of Brits believe that computer games mean children are less active and 31% believe that children who play computer games are less social. A quarter (25%) think children that play online games have shorter attention spans and 1 in 5 (20%) believe that children who play video games are less creative.

The perception of digital devices is that they entertain kids at the cost of not developing crucial skills for later life, like creativity, imagination, problem-solving, expression, and social skills.

Ryan spoke to children’s entertainment experts Nicola Bergot and Suzie Howes.
