Calls to tackle the pothole crisis

The Pothole Partnership urges local councils to adopt smarter repair strategies to tackle the UK’s pothole crisis as 1,700 drivers a day still have their vehicles damaged by road defects.

The partnership, featuring the AA, British Cycling, JCB, and the National Motorcyclists Council, shows the cost of repairs is also on the rise, up 20% in the last 12 months to an average of £300 per car.

One year after launching, the cross-industry Partnership has welcomed the Government’s additional £1.6bn funding for local road maintenance in England, yet a quarter of that money may be held back until authorities have shown that they are delivering on reducing the number of potholes.

Cameron spoke to Ben Rawding, general manager at JCB.
