Can you confidently cook without a recipe?
Brits may love watching cooking shows, but new research suggests the nation may be losing confidence in the kitchen itself.
This comes as research by Edinburgh Food and Drink Academy found 1 in 7 (17%) Brits say they can’t confidently cook without a recipe. When looking into technical skills, almost half (46%) say they are not confident in butchery techniques, as well as 1 in 3 being insecure when preparing fish (33%) or and over a quarter when poaching (27%). Worryingly, almost 1 in 5 (19%) only feel confident cooking pasta with a basic sauce with a recipe.
Naturally, modern pressures play a role in how people cook at home, with around one in five (21%) saying they are too tired or short on time to cook meals from scratch, while almost a quarter (23%) admit they have thrown away ingredients because they did not know how to cook them.
