Cash leaks as Brits avoid spending money on fixing household appliances

Avoidable ‘cash leaks’ – such as leaking drains and clogged gutters – are costing homeowners who ignore the warning signs an average of £1,885 to fix according to new research.

The findings from Gas Safe Register – the UK’s official registration body for gas engineers and gas businesses – reveal that due to the current cost-of-living crisis more than 1 in 4 (27%) homeowners are trying to avoid forking out on fixing, servicing or safety checking household appliances until they are no longer usable.

But this can come at a cost; more than a fifth (21%) of the 2,000 homeowners polled said that holding off on home maintenance tasks has ended up costing them more in the long run.

Ros spoke to finance expert Emmanuel Asuquo and Rob Denman from Gas Safe Register.
