Chris Boardman CBE embarks on a cycle ride
Climate change is wreaking havoc on community sports across the UK. Issues like waterlogged football pitches, extreme heat making cycling unbearable, and flooding disrupting events are becoming all too common.
Decreased motivation, injury concerns, and reduced enjoyment during extreme weather conditions are the primary barriers. If these weather patterns continue, 30% of adults fear further reductions in their activity levels over the next five years. These alarming figures underscore the urgent need for action to protect grassroots sports and physical activity from the escalating impacts of climate change.
By turning each pedal stroke into a step towards sustainability, Sport England hopes to inspire a nationwide movement ensuring future generations can enjoy sports in a healthier environment.
