Listen: new homeowners winter warning

For many UK homeowners, the upcoming winter has already raised significant concerns. The increasing cost of heating our homes will hit many households hard with difficult decisions having to be made.  While UK homeowners may be making choices about when to put the heating on, and whether to get their gas appliances serviced checked – not doing so could be a false economy in more ways than one.

Now another stark warning has been made, not by OFGEM, but by the Gas Safe Register – the UK’s official registration body for gas engineers and businesses who are urging new homeowners not to be caught out this winter and have an additional cost to worry about if their boiler breaks. Worse still, ignoring the problem could have potentially fatal consequences in the event of a gas explosion.

1 in 6 homes across the UK have potentially dangerous gas appliances according to analysis of gas safety visits conducted by the official gas registration body for the UK, which found unsafe gas appliances are most commonly located in homes that have changed hands relatively recently.

Ryan spoke to Bob Kerr, director of Gas Safe Register.
