Listen: Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day

Every year the charity Pancreatic Cancer UK launches its ‘Lights Up’ campaign which sees various landmarks lit in purple for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day – November 18th.  Tina Assenheim who is 53, from Westcliff, and works in Basildon, lost her bus driver husband Jason, to the condition in 2018.  Now she volunteers for the charity, and each year asks Basildon Council to arrange for our ‘Basildon’ sign on the A127 to be lit in purple on the day.

Tina shares her heartbreaking story with Ros Connors on Gateway Drivetime.  She also talks about her relentless campaign to get other landmarks lit up on the day in memory of Jason, raising awareness about a condition which she says is still largely unknown.
