Listen: World Wellbeing Week tips
This week (24th to 30th June) is World Wellbeing Week.
Ros spoke to psychotherapist Margaret Ward-Martin who gave us tips and advice on looking after our wellbeing. Here are some of the tips from Margaret:
- Mightily celebrate the wins. If managing to wash yourself is a win – great stuff; if not reaching out to your toxic friend is a win – more power to you.
- Do not judge where you are at. If you didn’t wash or did reach out to your toxic ex – don’t beat yourself up.
- Do less. Do nothing. You are not obliged to fix, respond, jump, panic, make a decision. TAKE …. A…..BEAT. Work at reflecting and responding rather than reacting. Give yourself the option of not engaging.
- Tolerate your pain. It’s horrible. It will lessen or pass or you will learn how to manage it.
- Avoid extremes. Eating too little or too much; sleeping all day and not sleeping at night; extreme people who take all your time or emotionally dump all over your serenity.
- Don’t expect to be exempt from tough times and challenge. It’s not reality TV – it’s reality. No one is that special.
- Name it and own it. Then take charge. If you are unhappy in a situation, own up to the fact and take responsibility for next steps.
