Pets beat exercise & socialising for our wellbeing

People often recognize that their pets make them happier, but few pause to consider just how deeply pets influence our overall wellbeing. In fact, 94% of pet owners say their pets improve their mental and emotional health. Many believe spending time with their pets has a greater positive impact on their wellbeing than regular exercise, a healthy diet, quality sleep, or even socialising.

The health benefits of having a furry friend go beyond emotional support. Over half (52%) of pet owners report feeling less lonely, while 31% say their pet helps them better manage stress. Additionally, 46% say owning a pet encourages them to be more physically active.

The research, from Admiral, also reveals that men and women tend to value their pets differently. Women are more likely to cherish their pets for companionship and affection, while men often view them in a more functional light particularly the way that pets help them exercise more make them more social.
