Preparing our gardens from extreme weather

On average, we are spending £402 and 3.3 hours a week in our gardens between June and August as we prepare them for the highly anticipated sunny summer months.

However, new research has found we are wasting almost £3 million a year, thanks to not understanding our flood risk or taking any protective measures.

Across the UK, 5.4 million people say flooding in their local area has affected their garden. Meanwhile, only 5% who live in high-risk areas could correctly identify their risk, while 68% thought it was ‘low’.

That’s according to figures from Flood Re, the joint initiative between the UK government and the insurance industry to make flood cover more accessible and affordable, as well as raise awareness and offer advice to those at risk.

Ryan spoke to enviromental design expert Dr Ed Barsley and Andy Bord, CEO of Flood Re.
