The nation loves radio

Roman Kemp has been voted the most popular radio presenter in the UK.

Roman, 29, has been presenting Capital Breakfast across the Capital FM network since 2017, alongside co-hosts Sian Welby and Sonny Jay.

The survey of UK radio listeners was conducted by Ruark to mark National Radio Day, this Saturday, August 20th. Kemp, who is the son of ex-Eastenders actor and Spandau Ballet bassist Martin Kemp and singer Shirlie Holliman, beat some of the biggest names in UK radio to the top spot, including second place Chris Evans from Virgin Radio, and third place Zoe Ball from BBC Radio 2. Ex-King of Breakfast radio Chris Moyles, now on Radio X, was in fourth with Radio 1 heavyweight and Tailenders podcast Greg James in fifth.

The survey also found just how reliant the UK is on radio, with well over half (54%) of respondents claiming that if there were no more radio and podcasts, it would negatively affect their lives. Interestingly, this was more true for those aged 18-24 (60%) and 25-34 (65%), than those aged 55+ (42%), suggesting the battle for hearts and minds with the likes of YouTube and Netflix hasn’t been lost just yet.
