Top dating trends for 2023 revealed

As we transition into the cold months, or ‘cuffing season’, people around the UK are looking to settle down into a new relationship. Dating app Plenty of Fish has revealed their annual dating trends for 2023 to prepare people for what to expect!

One big change comes as the age of using unrealistic face filters and photo edits may be over. British singles are being their unashamed selves with a trend towards authenticity with unfiltered pictures and honest commentary. Whilst over two thirds (69%) confess to having used a photo filter when online dating in the past, now three quarters (74%) of singles now feel comfortable enough to post real life, unfiltered pictures.

All singles have their own carefully curated criteria for their future partner, as being family-orientated (39%) and having a sense of humour (28%) remain firm favourites. However, next year expect to see a rise in Eco-dumping – Choosing to date or dump someone based on their sustainability-consciousness. Value-driven connections have seen over a third (39%) of singles say a partner who cares about the environment is a key attribute for them, more than their physical appearance (23%) or their profession (7%).
