UK workers scrutinising finances during National Payroll Week
With many feeling the pinch amid rising costs affecting all areas of life, new research has revealed that almost three quarters (73%) of UK employees are now reviewing their payslips at least once a month in efforts to take control of their finances; up from only 61% last year.
Workers are struggling to cope with the impact of rising costs. Nearly a third of UK workers (32%) say that since the cost of living crisis started, they come close to running out of money each month. As a result, 77% are planning to buy less and purchase fewer expensive items – either out of caution, or out of necessity.
New research by QuickBooks showcases how crucial monitoring your payslip can be – especially at such a dire time – with 58% of UK workers realising they have inadvertently paid too much tax in the past, up from 48% last year, and 31% the year before.
This National Payroll Week (5 – 9 September), Pauline Green from QuickBooks urges the nation to check payslips, and raise awareness of saving options such as save as you earn schemes.
Aston spoke to Pauline Green, head of product compliance & programs at QuickBooks.
