World Cancer Day

On World Cancer Day, as the world comes together to raise awareness and push for advances in cancer treatment, glioblastoma (GBM) remains one of the most aggressive and challenging cancers to treat. With a five-year survival rate of less than 10%, GBM is relentless, infiltrating brain tissue in ways that make complete removal nearly impossible. Despite these grim statistics, the scientific community is making strides toward innovative treatments that offer renewed hope for patients facing this devastating disease.

Among these promising breakthroughs is Carboxyamidotriazole Orotate (CTO), a next-generation brain-penetrant therapy developed by Tactical Therapeutics, Inc. Unlike traditional treatments that focus on single molecular targets, CTO takes a multi-pronged approach, blocking key pathways linked to tumor growth, immune suppression, and resistance to chemotherapy. When combined with Temozolomide (TMZ), the current standard of care, CTO has demonstrated significant improvements in progression-free and overall survival, even in patients with recurrent GBM. These findings mark a crucial step toward more effective, personalized treatments.

However, challenges remain. GBM patients still face delayed diagnoses, limited access to clinical trials, and a fragmented healthcare system that leaves them navigating complex treatment landscapes alone. On World Cancer Day, it is critical to push for greater funding, enhanced research collaboration, and systemic improvements in patient care. With cutting-edge therapies like CTO on the horizon, the future of glioblastoma treatment is no longer just about survival—it’s about hope, innovation, and ensuring that every patient has access to the best possible care.

Ryan spoke to Dr Rashida Karmali, CEO and president of Tactical Therapeutics, Inc.
