Would you pass your driving theory test today?
Theory test pass rates are at their lowest levels in recorded history at 44.2% for 2022/23 according to new analysis from the AA Driving School.
This is down from 65.4% just 15 years ago (2007/8), with new research revealing only 18% of drivers feel very confident they would pass the test if they had to take it today.
This may be because the vast majority (90%) admit they come across road signs they do not understand, with more than a quarter (26%) doing so very often or sometimes. Only 10% are confident they understand them all.
The analysis comes as the AA Driving School launches a new comprehensive theory test app to tackle the problem, with 700 theory questions and extensive hazard perception clips to help learners revise for the test, and drivers brush-up on road safety and knowledge.
Ros spoke to Camilla Benitz, managing director at AA Driving School and Keanan Lloyd-Adams, young driver and road safety influencer.
