Local radio station, Gateway 97.8, has produced a special documentary to reflect on the past six months, and will air on Wednesday 26th August at 3pm.

Johnny Jenkins, the station Editor, has produced ‘Lockdown’, which includes interviews with local people and community groups recorded during lockdown.

Community groups, such as the Basildon Round Table and Motivated Minds have contributed, alongside prominent local figures like the Mayor of Basildon.

The station has been producing a regular Coronavirus Update, on air at 6pm every weekday evening, since March. This daily update has kept listeners across Basildon and Thurrock informed even after the Government briefings ended.

The radio station, which has distributed radios to residents who are over 70 and isolating, has remained on air 24/7 since the country went into lockdown. The free radios have the station, on 97.8FM, as a saved pre-set.

Johnny Jenkins, who produced and hosted ‘Lockdown’ says:

“The past six months have been a difficult time for everybody. We’ve been on air every day since March with the latest Coronavirus News.

“This documentary, ‘Lockdown’, will reflect on the difficult times the community has been through, and look ahead to the next six months.”

The documentary, ‘Lockdown’, will air on Gateway 97.8 on Wednesday 26th August at 3pm. The documentary will also air on Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August, at 6pm in the daily Coronavirus Update slot.

Gateway 97.8 can be heard on 97.8fm in Basildon and East Thurrock, on the Gateway 97.8 app or online at: www.gateway978.com
