Gateway 97.8 hosted a 12-hour special show on election night, called All Out Election.

The show, which was hosted by David Webster, began at 10pm – as soon as the polls closed in the first winter general election in almost a century. 7 counts across Essex. were covered by reporters, where interviews took place and results were announced live on air.

The night’s proceedings were also broadcasted on Facebook and YouTube Live for the very first time, where over 1,000 watched the stream. There were cameras in the studios and at the Basildon count, so viewers could really get a sense of the election results.

At the Basildon count, Editor and Political Correspondent, Johnny Jenkins interviewed all of the candidates for two constituencies, grilling politicians on their pledges and promises.

Johnny, who also managed the show, said:

“Thursday night was a seismic night in British politics, and I am delighted that Gateway 97.8 was able to cover the events live on air.

“We have been covering elections for many years but have never been on air for 12 hours. David and I were pretty shattered by 10am on Friday morning!

“I would like to thank our fantastic team of over 25 people and the thousands of people who listened and watched our coverage.”

All Out Election can be heard on Gateway 97.8’s Listen Again service.
