Neil Gits Handles

I try not to get too grumpy about stuff, but as an Old Git there are so many things in life these days that get you metaphorically throwing your hands up in the air in frustration, especially when it comes to shopping. They suddenly stop producing things that you’ve always bought and enjoyed (tins of creamed mushrooms spring to mind !), they change the recipe of an item and call it “new & improved” (for that phrase read ‘totally ruined’ !) or if there were four different flavours of a yummy treat, you can bet they’ll discontinue your favourite one of the four and replace it with something containing caramel, probably salted !

But it’s not just food …. I know we’re all supposed to do our bit for the planet and use less plastic, but those free bags they used to give away by the handful to pack your shopping in were really useful in many ways, not least for being the ideal size to line your pedal bin with, particularly as you could use the handles to tie them up with on bin day ! But no – you have to bring your own re-usable shopping bags now – and if you try to buy some plastic ones specifically for the bin, guess what – they don’t do them with handles ! I had to resort to stapling mine together to stop waste spilling out into my wheelie bin & all over the street when Dustman Dave appears on Tuesday !

So praise be for “A13 Annie” who managed to locate a nice big fat roll of “pedal bin liners with tie handles” for me – which I will be cramming as full to bursting point before chucking in the rubbish to make them last as long as possible.
