Neil Gits Shovelling

27th February 2022
Posted by Neil Matthew

I don’t actually own a shovel, but I will be popping into B & Q at Pipps Hill soon to pick up a couple of tools so I can keep on top of my back garden which I had thought was virtually “no maintenance” until I ventured out for an inspection recently. In the two years that I had been hiding away indoors, all sorts of growth had invaded my fake grass lawn from the top, bottom & sides and taking a closer look I realized I would need the help of a nice friendly local gardener to restore its pristine appearance ! Boy, when nature is allowed to run wild does it have a field day !

Along the way I discovered that certain areas in the corners where the rampant weeds were the thickest had provided ideal spots for the neighbours’ cats to use as a toilet and had hoped that clearing everything away would make my property less attractive to them, but no – quite the opposite ! I’ve been waking up to a daily deposit for the last two weeks in plain sight of my kitchen window, which would have been hidden from sight in the past, so I have been forced to undertake some improvised shovelling with whatever I have lying about next to the fence out there.

I love cats, the same ones cheered me up regularly whilst sunbathing out there last summer and preening themselves for whatever they have to look beautiful for in their cat worlds, so it’s a bit frustrating that they have (literally) soiled their welcome at my home ! I have already done a “cat-themed” ‘Soul Connection’ on the show before but I wonder if recent events in the garden can inspire me to come up with another amazing idea …. perhaps not !!

Catch last week’s show for two hours of terrific tunes and wonderful waffle in between including all the lastest goings on in “Old Git World” by finding last Monday’s programme in the “Listen Again” section on this website. And of course I will be back LIVE between 7 & 9pm on Monday as always to fill your life with soulful funky jazzy goodness ….
