Neil Gits 40/40

15th June 2024
Posted by Neil Matthew

I was back on the quiz trail on Tuesday evening, but not the usual one within walking distance of my house this time – and with different team-mates ! Nathan is currently out in Thailand for the month doing that student travelling thing, so with A13 Annie off work for a week and able to stay up on a ‘school night’ we got in touch with our old friend Dave who sadly lost his wife and regular quiz partner back in February, and formed a new team called “D.N.A.” – obvious I know ….

The venue this time was the Red Lion in Billericay High Street where an old colleague of mine Pete currently hosts a weekly quiz night and where some of the old regulars from my own events back in the day sometimes pitch up. I must have visted him in at least six different pubs now over the last 30 years and he always comes up with a cracking set of questions, photos and music clips, putting hours of work in each week to come up with something special. The photo round this time was 30 “Mr Men” (I didn’t know there were THAT many !) and as we had just put down stupid guesses to fill blanks spaces for at least 20 of them, we weren’t over confident of winning … ‘Mr Four Eyes’ and ‘Mr Pink Nose’ were NOT going to score us any points !!

However, we were scoring between 12 & 14 points out of a possible 20 on most rounds on subjects like Films, Entertainment & TV Adverts, even doing the same on the notoriously random ‘True or False’ section – and then along came the ‘Beat The Intro’ round !! Out came the ‘Joker’ giving us double points on everything we got right and amazingly we DID get everything right, only an early Robbie Williams solo hit causing us a little stress … result 40/40 !! And it seemed none of the other teams were “Mr Men” afficanados either so we romped home in first place with 134 points and won £21 between us, which covered our entry fee, drinks and crisps making it an enjoyable free night’s entertainment.

Not everybody loves a quiz night like we do, but if you do think you know your stuff, don’t miss “The Soul Connection” in hour two of my show each week – I think you can probably see the answer for the last one quite easily from the playlist below ! – Tune in LIVE this Monday from 7-9pm to have a go and see if you can be first one in with the connection on “The Old Gits Soul Show” Facebook page…
