Neil Gits A Bird In His Loft

I am not an early riser and like anybody getting on a bit I need a good solid seven hours sleep each night – I can’t function on four to five hours worth after partying hard the previous evening anymore !! As anybody of a certain age will tell you, a proper good lie-in is out of the question too, with your bladder dictating that you NEED to get up either just before your 7 hours is completed or at best after one snooze of the alarm…

So to be rudely woken up at 5.00 am last week by some sort of noise coming from just outside my bedroom was to say the least “frustrating”. At first I thought it might be one of the neighbours’ young kids excitedly getting out of bed super early on their birthday, but the sounds seemed to be coming from above my head rather than through the thin wall separating me from next door. A look out of the indow with my bleary eyes revealed that pigeons and other birds were sitting on and flying to and from TV ariels on all the roofs nearby, so as I actually have one such (reduntant!) fitting directly above my bedroom window, I suspected that might be the problem…

I tried to get back to sleep, but now half-awake I became aware the ‘noises’ were moving across my head and in my semi-conscious state, after a long look back across at my house in my PJs from the other side of the street and prodding up the hatch to my loft briefly, I realized I had a bird flying around up there in a state of panic ! Thankfully, however it got in, it founds its way back out and I have heard nothing since – but I do keep “coming to” from my precious sleep almost every night at some point between 5 & 6am almost expecting to hear something again !

Luckily, it wasn’t a Monday morning and I had a good enough sleep before my last couple of shows to keep up the high standards of presentation and quality of music that you’ve come to expect over the last 14 years !
