Neil Gits A Bruise

1st June 2025
Posted by Neil Matthew

Whilst many people my age are worried about their weight, having gradually seen their waistlines increase during the leisurely later years of life, others pile on the pounds regardless of the consequences, merrily eating and drinking with no inclination to participate in any form of exericse. I would probably fall into the latter category – except that I seem to have lost over two stone in the last three years !

Admittedly, I do quite a lot of walking now, which I never used to, and also I don’t eat or drink as much as I’d like to, simpy because my low food budget won’t stretch to gluttony ! I didn’t realize just how much weight I’d lost until my jeans and trousers kept slipping down past my thighs towards my knees and even doing my belt up to the tightest setting wasn’t totally helping. Rather than spend money I can’t really afford on new clothes, I acquired two new belts with a much more Neil-friendly high fit …

Sitting and walking around is much more comfortable now, I don’t have to keep yanking my jeans up every five minutes when popping down to the shops and there is no fear of being arrested for indecent exposure en route by the local cops ! One minor downside of the new belts though is that they both have quite a heavy metal buckle. In my haste to get to bed at the end of the day, tired out from all the stress that comes with being an “Old Git” in his 60s, I do tend to throw my clothes off rather randomly, jump under the duvet and worry about tidying up in the morning … and sometimes get quite a smack on the shins in the process !

So it is that as I write this, I have quite an impressive purple & green looking contusion on my left leg. I learnt that new word in my vocabulary (contusion NOT leg !) via a song title on my playlist last Monday -I thought it had been a mis-print on the MP3 file I’d been sent, but apparently not, so for once I am sitting here “contused” and instead of “confused” ! Take a look at the other 23 songs that I played last week as well, then go to “Listen Again” to hear them and join me at 7pm this Monday for more …
