Another calamity in the kitchen – and again it involved the microwave ! I am not great with gadgetry as you have probably realized by now, but I can usually grab a ready meal out of the fridge or freezer and zap it into a perfectly edible state. I have learnt to always follow the heating instructions on the packaging to the letter for the best results and food rarely comes out burnt or cold in the middle, but this turned out to be an exception to the rule …
I’d picked up a beef stew with dumplings from Tesco, not one of my regular choices, but a nice tasty treat now and again and it certainly wasn’t the first time I’d eaten one of these meals. Feeling hungry (as you usually do before eating anything !) I peeled off the cellophane, dished it up and tucked in. Then … ouch ! I got that awful stinging feeling as something way too hot touches the tip of your tongue. You want to eat, but don’t want that pain again in a hurry and now your whole mouth feels odd as you contemplate trying to finish the meal without letting any meat or gravy make contact with the damaged organ !
A few hours later and it’s all healed and forgotten about (apart from making a note in my diary to use the incident as a blog idea …) and my tongue was all ready for the next meal time and more importantly to help me fill the gaps in between the two hours of soul, jazz-funk & disco tunes on my live Monday show with some fascinating facts and a fair bit of waffle. I am sure one or two sad peope would like to see a transcript of everything I say in between the songs in these blogs, but you’ll just have to make do with a copy of this week’s playlist !
