Neil Gits A Damp Carpet

12th November 2023
Posted by Neil Matthew

I held out till Halloween, but in the end I couldn’t quite make it through till November – the heating had to go on that Tuesday afternoon ! Although I missed getting the boiler serviced this time last Autumn, for the last two years it’s been providing me with hot water perfectly, having spent quite a few quid getting it repaired in 2021 following several years of neglect, and I was confidently looking forward to a nice warm Winter in the “Old Gits Office” ….

Alas one week later, things were all over the place ! The boiler kept tripping out and one of my radiators started leaking, so operation towels & trays came into play, a method that proved successful a good few years ago when my original boiler kicked the bucket producing a similar scenario. Next a very strict timetable was implemented on when to reset the tripped bolier, when to take a shower, when to pump up the heating and when NOT to leave the house for more than a couple of hours. Sadly, I miscalculated last Wednesday and was out of the house for nine hours enjoying myself, blissfully ignorant of the two full plastic trays, four sodden towels underneath and a damp patch stretching halfway across the carpet from the window to the front door which were all developing during my absence to greet me on my late night return …

Thankfully, my “Man With A Van Who Usually Can” has been contacted now and though understandably very busy at this time of year, dealing with other idiots like me (!) I hope to see him some time this week for a (gulp!) estimate to fix the problem. Consequently, I’ve been a tad distracted and not been working to full capacity on this Monday’s show but preparation is now back on schedule and you can look forward to your usual two hours of the good stuff from 7-9pm – plus naturally a few tales from the homestead of a bolier-related nature !
