It’s that time of year again ! Everyone is going out, having a drink, enjoying a nice meal and generally partying hard ! Not so much me, not at my age nor in my current “financially challenged” situation … but I did manage to indulge just a little last weekend.
A couple of friends asked if I would give them a lift to and from a party on Saturday night and kindly slipped me a few quid so I could get sometrhing to eat and have a drink before collecting them at midnight. I was really torn between where to go ! McDonalds ? Subway ? KFC ? Burger King ? Fish N Chips ? Pizza Hut ? So many delicious fave fast food outlets that I haven’t had for a little while !
In the end parking issues on a busy night in town meant that I opted to go home for a while and visited the local Turkish Grill which I only discovered last year and does an awesome burger with all the trimmings you can squeeze in. But as it was a special occasion I decided to go a step further and pay £9.50 for a chicken shish kebab in a pitta bread with salad and burger sauce. It was HUGE !! I swear I’ve had much smaller pub meals for at least £4 more !
Having devoured and enjoyed that and watched a little telly it was time to go back to complete my mission, although I left extra early so I was nearby in case their party finished up to an hour before midnight, there being some doubt on the venue’s licensing hours. I pitched up at a venue I used to work at 5 years ago and enjoyed a half of cider a the bar, chatting to one of the old faces there, talking about football, moaning about the state of the world and also discussing which of the other old boys had died since I was last in there !!
It was quite a decent night overall, my friends had clearly enjoyed a Merry Xmas party and eventually rolled out of their shindig a little while after midnight and we had a fun drive home, cracking awful jokes between the three of us !! I won’t repeat any of those on the show on Monday night, nor will I play any “festive favourites” you’ll be relieved to hear !
