Neil Gits A Mini Valet

27th May 2023
Posted by Neil Matthew

With a very busy period of football activity behind me over the last couple of months I thought it was high time I gave the trusty “Neil-mobile” a bit of a treat before summer and hopefully some sunny chilled-out road trips ahead. I’d already given it a full service and had a couple of necessary repairs done in April, so things under the bonnet were fine, but I noticed exactly one month after that visit to the local garage that I’d done over 5,000 miles ! That’s an awful lot of suicidal insects on the windscreen, biscuit crumbs on the seats, grubby handprints on the tailgate and stray fast food scraps in the footwells – definitely time for the “Mini Valet” !

I use one of three places for car washing, depending on my movements and what I need done, and though they are the most expensive of the three, the one just north of where I live does a really thorough valet and the team there are super efficient. It also meant I could pop in Morrisons nearby and pick up some of their amazing raspberry jam doughuts !! Not to be eaten in the car mind … They didn’t let me down, the car has rarely looked better and for once the rain that almost without fail seems to appear out of nowhere on a clear, dry carwash day, held off and I got home to admire their work on my driveway in the sunshine.

But !!! … Of all the days for it to happen, some thoughtless bird had dropped it’s guts all over the nearside back window on the way home ! What are the chances ? Still the inside was still lovely and clean, while I did my best to repair the poop damage with my own limited car cleaning skills. Back indoors, I was soon in position on my PC to knock up this week’s show and I think you’ll discover my joy at having a super spotless happy car to drive around in (for now!) is reflected in the playlist below. Check it out on the ‘Repeat Pay’ at 5pm today (Saturday) or if you’ve missed that catch up via “Listen Again” here on the Gateway website …
