Neil Gits A Mushroom !

15th October 2023
Posted by Neil Matthew

The fake grass that I had installed at my house back in 2017 has transformed my garden in recent years. Having been a sufferer of hayfever and not having any fingers which are even the remotest shade of green, I hardly ever used to go out there and at one stage it almost became physically impossible to do so anyway, such was the stranglehold that nature’s weeds and brambles had taken over it. To be brutally honest, it was a disgrace and I was ashamed of it !!

So, when my mum died and left me a few quid, one of the major projects I embarked on was to get it professionally sorted and a good friend (who does have VERY green fingers!) put me in touch with a chap who could solve all my garden issues. Once done it looked magnificent ! Neighbours nearby whose houses looked down on the rear of mine would stop me in the street and compliment it – one even knocked at my door and asked for a contact for the people who did it and have since done the same ! A football goal was installed at one end and Nathan would practice his skills with me, but that was a good while ago now and once he moved out to go to college, then “The Apocalypse” arrived, I didn’t set foot out there again for a couple of years …

However, now that I am retired and have more time on my hands, a couple of visits from a local handy man removed all the debri that had invaded the edges and spilt over on to the artificial turf and I have been able to keep the bottom of the garden and the side borders tidy. The issue I have now is that after 6 years, some persistent weeds have managed to creep UNDER the fake grass and force their way up through the middle of it. I can deal with that quite comfortably but last week I was amazed to see a bloody big mushroom poking it’s head through !! Using my recently acquired weeding skills, it was promptly removed and ‘discouraged’ from re-appearing – and I’ve got my eyes keenly focussed on the lawn now …

Each week on my show, you can be confident that no musical ‘weeds’ will spoil my lovingly cultivated array of beautifully interesting soul, jazz, funk & disco tunes for you to admire, check out at this week’s playlist and see how splendid it looks :
