Neil Gits A New Bag

6th November 2021
Posted by Neil Matthew

Anyone who knows me well will confirm that I have some quirky little habits, things I do to make sure my life runs as smoothly as possible that I have worked out for myself rather than follow the “conventional” method. A good example is that my house is almost literally held together by Blu Tac and black gaffa tape ! If anything breaks or needs holding in place, those are my two go-to materials every time …

Another is my fondness for those little transparent change bags you can pick up from your bank (or at least you could when they still dealt in actual real money and were even open for customers once in a while !!) If it is small and needs carrying around in your pocket, but is at risk of possibly falling through a small hole in said pocket (though I would fix that with gaffa tape !) then into a little placcie bag it goes ! I normally have at least three in use on my person at any one time and on a Monday my USB sticks are carefully transported to Gateway that way … except that last week, after several years of loyal service, that particular bag could take it no more and let them slip on to the floor ! Back up plan activated …

It’s no secret that when I play vintage vinyl tracks on my show I don’t actually have the original black 12″ with me – for starters I don’t recall the last time I saw a turntable in the studios and more importantly I have to park my car about two miles away and at my old age don’t really fancy lugging a big heavy box of records through Basildon !! So onto MP3 they go at home, jumps and crackles included, and on the air they go each Monday via a USB stick. I don’t make a big fuss about which songs are from vinyl, but it’s usually about 50/50 so tune in this week and see if you can spot the genuine article from the digital re-masters. Here are last week’s tunes :
