Neil Gits A New Tumble Dryer

5th August 2022
Posted by Neil Matthew

Just when you think you’ve got your finances straight, there’s always something that crops up unexpectedly, whether it’s in the home, on your car or maybe a bill that you’d overlooked when budgetting for the month. Recently I had to buy a new tumble dryer, only my third one in over 30 years of living at my house and the old one had lasted at least ten years, so I suppose I should have seen it coming. But you don’t, do you ? My previous one would have lasted a bit longer I am sure, if I had been more sensible and not set it to run for the full two hours at maximum heat on the hottest day of the summer about 15 years ago, so that could have been prevented !! This one just kept spinnning away merrily without actually giving off any heat to dry the clothes in the end, so my T-shirts just kept coming out still wet but very dizzy, hence a new machine was purchased …

You might think why don’t I just hang my washing out on a line in the garden ? Well, I do have a small garden and it is in better shape than it’s been for a long, long time thanks to early retirement, but I don’t really like going out there, not really being at one with nature, and there’s a fair bit of noise sometimes round my way with dogs barking and people doing DIY, so it’s nicer indoors usually. And I don’t have a washing line ! I’ve never seen the logic in spending a whole morning washing clothes only to put them outside at the mercy of nature and the elements, returning back later to find your clean jeans and shirts or whatever crawling with insects or bugs, or even worse splattered with bird poo … and then there’s the occasional “sandstorm” from the Sahara these days to contend with too !! No, it’s a tumble dryer all day long for me – no problems, no worries …
