Neil Gits A Painful Awakening

29th September 2024
Posted by Neil Matthew

I think I mentioned in passing on Monday’s show how I’d hurt my back in the morning, stretching down to put some frozen chips in the freezer after a quick nip up to Sainsburys. Little did I know what was to follow over the rest of the week ! Having staggered back to the car from Studio 1 that evening and strategically placed myself on the sofa for three undisturbed hours of solid TV watching, I gingerly made my way up to bed and realized that turning over in my sleep might be an issue …

I was not wrong !! After waking up in some discomfort twice already in the wee small hours, I had my ‘sleep’ rudely and prematurely ended at 6.15am by the most awful pain I can recall for about 30 years, when I had a kidney stone problem that developed overnight. I found myself trying to somehow get off my bed crippled in agony, whilst repeatedly & loudly shouting a sentence that contained two words you’d never hear me use on my live show !! At that point I completely passed out and came to about half an hour later lying upside down on my duvet with my feet weirdly placed either side of my alarm clock on the bedside table …

Tuesday & Wednesday saw the recovery begin, with the aid of a regular intake of ibuprofen, but walking anywhere was quite difficult though not impossible, a bit inconvenient as I had an important meeting on the second day, but I struggled on, the pain eventually disappeared and across Friday and Saturday I was just “aware” of a twinge ot two when moving until today, Sunday, when I now feel back to normal (pardon the pun!) But … phew ! What a long dull week that was …

So now I am looking ahead to tomorrow and Monday night’s live broadcast of the “Old Gits Soul Show” which I have just started preparing after trying to catch up on several jobs that needed doing, having been sidelined as I built up a strong meaningful relationship with my sofa and the TV remote control. These are the songs I put together last week :
