Neil Gits A Trapped Thumb

24th February 2023
Posted by Neil Matthew

Tuesday is “Bin Day” where I live and I’m happy to say that my local council operatives are very reliable, in both when and how they remove my rubbish. Of course these days, not much of what we chuck out is really “rubbish” – I have two full size wheelie bins, a medium sized plastic box, two re-usable sacks, two large rolls of bio-degradable bags and a little green bin for waste food – though the words “waste” and “food” aren’t words you’ll often find me using in the same seentence !! – all for the many various levels of recycling.

It was the “little green bin” that caused me an issue last week. I call it the “slop bucket” because all I ever put in in it is the leftover sauce scraped off the plate from a takeaway curry or anything green that gets put in a Chinese dish. It has an odd handle that either locks or doesn’t lock the lid depending on which way you close it and I always make sure it is locked so that any old bags of “slop” don’t go flying over my front lawn if the wind gets up (the slop bucket is the first thing to get blown across the street if Storm Whateveritsnameisthisweek arrives…) So once the four different opperatives in their four different vehicles had been and dealt with the four different recepticles that they rotate fortnightly, it was time pop out to the end of my drive and retrieve them….

Alas, something must have distracted me and the lid of the slop bucket was NOT locked when I went to move it back into “Bin Central”, swinging back over my hand and giving my poor thumb an almighty WHACK ! It flippin’ hurt for a good three or four days, but thankfully by Monday all was good as new again and I was able to head for Studio 1 to do my live show on Monday. These are the tracks I played, in between which I didn’t whinge once about having a sore thumb ….
