Every Sunday, I spend a ridiculous amount of time indoors, meticulosly hand-picking the songs I want to play on Monday evening, taking great care that there is nice balance of 70s & 80s tracks, along with a smattering of suitable cuts from the 60s, 90s and 21st Century too. I try and vary the tunes I play ranging from slow to mellow to mid-tempo to upbeat and make sure that there are as many totally obscure releases included as all-time favourites. But the one thing I nearly always fail to achieve it to play them ALL inside my two hour slot !!
A couple of weeks though I surprised myself and crossed every single song off my playlist ! I aim to get in 12 tracks per hour, so by about halfway I have an idea if I might need to drop one or maybe even two to avoid ‘bleeding over’ the nine o’clock news (which may not actually be a bad thing these days !! But … hey…) This time though it crossed my mind that I might possibly need to find a reserve to slot in, but in the end I found room for all 24 planned tunes quite nicely.
The songs that are least likely to miss the cut are those involved in the various weekly features, but I also wouldn’t dream of removing one of your requests … and as I have about SIX at present for this Monday, I am going to have my work cut out this week. Better start preparing now ….
You can hear last Monday’s show on the ‘Repeat Play’ in our schedule at 5pm this Saturday or shift along to the ‘Listen Again’ page where you can pick and choose to hear any soul gems you might have missed over the last 28 days, or maybe enjoy a show for a second or even third time in its entirety . The choice is yours, I just put it all ‘out there’ …
