Neil Gits All Four Lined Up

19th November 2023
Posted by Neil Matthew

Once the clocks go back for winter it becomes a different world out there. I leave home for my evening socializing in the dark instead of evening sunlight, my electric bill goes up as I use more for lighting, my gas bill soars up as I try to keep warm with temperatures dropping weekly & all sorts of stuff around the house I was doing without thinking for the last six months has to be approached another way as we switch from Autumn into Winter.

After another year of unexpected car repair bills (the Neil-Mobile is heading for 10 years old now!) it is more important than ever that I am prepared for the changes in driving conditions ahead – mixing anti-freeze in with the coolant is one job high on my list, as is an oil-change, having done so many miles in the last two years that it is now completely out of sync with my annual service. First though it was time to check on my tyres. The thread seems fine for now, so no need to buy any new ones yet -then find out I’ve got one of those random punctures due to a stray nail in the road ! Grrrr …

I keep a close eye on my tyre pressures, made easier by a display setting on my dashboard, which may not be totally accurate, but does show me if one is lower than the others. Before retirement, when I was carrying a car full of amplifiers, speakers and other heavy disco equipment around five or six nights a week (not to mention all the boxes of vinyl !) I set my tyres a couple of units higher than the front ones, but now they need to be all level, which can prove quite tricky and there always seems to be one slightly higher than the rest. But this time I got them spot on, all four tyres reading exactly the same and every time I checked my dash, once fully warmed up and cruising along the dual carriageways and motorways yesterday, they were all lined up perfectly !! 🙂

OK it’s the silly little things that make me happy being a fully fledged “Old Git” these days, but it is being in the studio on a Monday evening that I feel at my most content, bringing you my two hour selection of soul, jazz-funk & disco tunes form the 70s & 80s, having spent all Sunday afternoon planning the perfect playlist – which is what I should be dong right now !!! Meanwhile, here’s last week’s one …
