I recently made what will surely be my last ” wander ” with my trusty camera for 2020 by revisiting somewhere I had only been once previously, on a warm spring day in the school holidays five years ago for a typical day out at the seaside with Nathan, an old friend from Billericay (who had moved to Lincolnshire) and her daughter who is the same age as him. It was a fun day back then, but fancying some reviving sea air and a decent drive away from the hustle & bustle of South Essex, I thought I’d head there again, expecting to find a calm, peaceful place for a nice stroll and stretch the Old Git’s aging legs. I wasn’t disappointed !!!
OK, it was the tail end of Autumn, albeit on a surprisingly pleasant day weather-wise, and of course everywhere is a bit quieter this year anyway, but Skegness was a total ghost town !! I dread to think what it must have been like in November – almost EVERY shop / business was closed, the obvious exceptions being the two supermarkets I went past, and most distressing was the fact that I must have walked past around a dozen well & truly shut fish n chip shops before I finally stumbled across a little bakery boldly soldiering on and making tasty bacon rolls which kept me going on the way back to the car park.
On the plus side, I got my fresh air and exercise, took some smashing pictures of new football grounds, un-spoilt by the loitering general public and found plenty of new and repeatable ideas for my show via a collection of CDs and MP3s in the car on the journey there and back.
