Neil Gits Back To Stowmarket

I was delighted to get back on the road with my camera and head for some Saturday afternoon footy action last weekend. It was my first game of the year having taken my annual ‘hibernation’ in December & January when the weather, traffic & daylight (or lack of it!) combine along with a couple of other factors to make Big Road Trips less than enjoyable ! One thing I’d missed more than I expected was simply getting out in the fresh air, something I really needed after a rotten man-cold recently …

I’ll spare you the full write up about what a good match it was and how tasty the burgers were, etc – if you are interested it’s all there along with the photos on my personal Facebook page ! But … my reason for choosing this particular game was because the home team hadn’t won a game all season and I hoped that this day might be their moment and I might be in the right place at the right time to share their joy / relief. It started well as they scored in the 3rd minute but alas, once again it ended up in yet another defeat…

Primarily, I like to visit football clubs I’ve never visited before, wander round taking quirky photos and chat to anybody who will listen, but on this occasion I had been here once before – 38 years ago in 1986 ! I can’t remember just how much had changed, but I am pretty sure that the concrete monstrosity that is the A14 Stowmarket bypass wasn’t towering above one corner last time ! One final footnote , the visitors were Bowers & Pitsea FC who sponsor the “Power Hour” on Gateway which you might have heard just before my show on a Monday evening ….
