Up until quite recently I would make a cooked breakfast every Saturday & Sunday without fail – sausages, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and the occasional fried or scrambled egg – the whole weekend revolved around them ! Then in the last couple of years, as I started doing more & more ambitious football trips around the country, I trimmed them down because I was eating McDonalds McMuffins en route to matches and then always a cheeseburger at half-time, so switched to doing either sausages or bacon with either tomatoes or mushrooms in the evening once home – a very, VERY late breakfast !!
At the end of last season, I had virtually phased my legendary grills right out as more and more often I was picking up tasty treats before during and after the games and getting home just too late. So having discovered that one of my local cafes in town do a superb Full English for under £6, I now go there if I feel the urge. But a few weeks ago , I treated myself to some real good quality sossies, got the grill fired up again and it made a nice change – but I was stuffed !! I’d got used to having about four “mini meals” a day on Saturday & Sunday, so I guess that I will have to confine those big platefuls to memory for a while …
What happens next ? In these recent warm summer weekends, with the windows wide open, the wonderful smell of bacon cooking comes wafting into my house, the neighbours are knocking up bacon rolls or doing their own fry ups – torture !! I’ve not done as many footy trips as usual so far this season and am finding out what goes on all around my house when I am normally on the road – BBQs, family roasts, late morning brekfasts and other home cooked delights being created all round “Old Gits HQ” … and never an invitation to join !!
I’ve just opened the window today and am hoping I won’t get distracted and have to dash off down to the cafe ! If you are reading this before the Saturday ‘Repeat Play’ at 5pm you’ll know I managed to resist any latest food seduction … now let’s talk music :
