Neil Gits Bin Busy !

20th February 2022
Posted by Neil Matthew

I didn’t get out in the car on Friday till late in the evening (yep, a “Dad’s Taxi” run !) so I didn’t see any roads blocked by fallen tree trunks, although there seemed to be piles and piles of large branches and twigs every 50 yards on my round trip to Basildon, stacked perilously close to the carriageway threatening to savage my newly updated tyres !! I also had to be careful which football match I chose to attend on Saturday as game after game got called off either due to storm damage or the dreaded ‘waterlogged pitch’ as Storm Eunice emptied out her contents over the South-East. As it was, the one I wanted to watch went ahead and I could see how that might nearly have been a casualty too, with an area behind one goal fenced off to spectators as a tall previously well secured mesh metal fence wobbled drunkenly in the remaining breeze – I still got rather wet though !!

My stormy Friday was mainly spent indoors working away on Gateway stuff at “Old Gits HQ” but rather too much of it was also spent regularly stepping outside my front door to drag my wheelie bins back from the edge of the road to their usual spot in the corner of my front garden. In the end I got my car out of the garage (I had to get to the tumble drier in there anway …) and parked it on the drive strategically so that the bins couldn’t swim away down towards the River Crouch ! I fear though that in the process my aforementioned tyres might have taken a beat of a bruising ….

Two days later and all is calm again, if still a little damp, and everything is done in the office to ensure you hear the highest possibile quality selections of jazz-funk, disco and of course soul on this week’s show, LIVE on Monday from 7-9pm. And if you press that big new red “Listen Again” button you can still hear last week’s show from the ‘Cool Soul’ area in the comofrt of your own home. Much nicer than venturing out in to the wild winter of wonderful Essex !
