Neil Gits Blossom In His Chips

28th April 2024
Posted by Neil Matthew

Although I am definitely not someone who embraces modern technology and follows current trends, over the last three or four years I have got used to watching various You Tube Channels the way I used to watch certain soap operas on TV, following the adventures of the people involved and waiting excitedly for the next ‘vlog’. I particularly like the ones where You Tubers travel all over the country and sometimes abroad too, usually taking scenic train journeys or of course checking out interesting football stadiums – you know me by now !!

But one of my recent guilty pleasures has been following a chap from Yorkshire who lives in his van and spends his time driving all over the wonderful north of England, exploring historic towns with their amazing architecture and coastal towns with tremendous scenic landscapes. Part of his ‘remit’ in the latter case seems to be to try out the local fish ‘n’ chips and after seeing him enjoy several highly rated ‘chippy teas’ in the last few weeks it got my tummy rumbling and had a strong urge to drive to our own Essex coast and get some for myself !

Whilst our man on You Tube has lately been in Whitby, Scarborough, Bridlington, Saltburn & Cleethorpes amongst others on the East Coast, I took a modest 20 minute trip to Maldon on a surprisingly sunny day, got tsome photos on The Hythe and then walked into the High Street where I found some very tasty cod & chips in a family run shop which apparently has been there for over 100 years ! It wasn’t over expensive either and I sat down on a bench outside the nearby All Saints Church, feeling all was well with the world again. Unfortunately, I was at under a tree & a sudden breeze brought a shower of pink blossom in my direction and pretty as it was, I really didn’t want any in with my chips !! Issue resolved, I finished my meal and had a clear head to start thinking about what to play on my next soul show when I got home …

You can hear how that turned out by heading for the “Listen Again” section of this website and search for ‘Cool Soul’ – last Monday’s programme and three others from the last 28 days are all waiting for you to enjoy, plus of course the next ‘live’ show is on air this Monday at 7pm.
