I got a nice surprise text from my son Nathan last week. He is now working part-time at McDonalds and depending on his shift and his mum’s work commitments, sometimes needs a lift home afterwards. Last Wednesday was one of those days, except that this time, instead of taking him straight back to his flat, he suggested we divert via Hollywood Bowl at the Festival Leisure Park. Well, that was quite unexpected and after life over the last 18 months without any social interaction (and almost as little exercise!) it made a very welcome change.
To the great surprise of both of us, I got a strike with my very first bowl – but inevitably went on to get well beaten, as was the case with the traditional game of air hockey while we waited for our lane, although we did manage to grab a pool table afterwards where I did notch up a rare victory ! Without getting political or controversial, it made a very refreshing change and proved to be a much needed highly enjoyable experience … so much so that we did it all again on Sunday !! And I lost at everything as usual – normal service resumed…
I do like a good solid routine but I have to admit it was nice to smash it on those occasions, however rest assured I will be back exactly where you would expect to find me on Monday between 7 & 9, live in Studio One at Gateway presenting my next show. Don’t forget if you tune in from 5-7pm this Saturday (or visit the “Listen Again” section here) you can still hear last Monday’s offering, playlist below :
