Neil Gits Burnt Toast

12th February 2023
Posted by Neil Matthew

Nothing sets me up for the day, once I am finally up and out of bed, like a couple of slices of toast, spread with Clover and Orange shredless marmalade. It’s well documented that I am NOT a morning person, so this tasty treat is usually served up around midday, with a glass of apple juice, and then I am ready to deal with all the day’s important stuff ! It’s not hard to make of course, so done properly it’s a guaranteed pick me up to lift life into second gear each morning / lunchtime …

However, somehow one day last week I got it wrong. Everything was set as normal on the table, plate, knife, glass and aforementioned spreads, along with the latest issue of my trusty football newspaper, but when it popped up out of the toaster, my slices were worryingly black ! It would appear that I had somehow knocked the heating control from its normal position and in-resetting it, had adjusted it one notch UP instead of one notch DOWN …. eurgh ! All was not lost though, an extra layer of Clover (apparently other spreads are available – but I wouldn’t touch them!) and an extra dollop of marmalade and it was as good as ever ….

That “important stuff” I have to deal with each day is keeping on top of my show prep which really is a complete labour of love and I spend way too long on it now that I am retired and have all the time in the world to check out forgotten songs to play and research all the bits for the reguar features. I’d like to think that all the effort I put in ensures that each week someone just like me of a certain age, who loves their soul, jazz-funk & disco tunes from the 70s & 80s, finds the music totally to their liking. Check out my latest playlist below and catch the tracks via “Listen Again” to see if you agree … Time for toast now !!
