Neil Gits Chilly

13th March 2021

I know the show is usually referred to as “Cool Soul” online (as opposed to “The Old Gits Soul Show”, which I’ve always called it on air and on Facebook…) but last week was ridiculous ! The weather forecast didn’t predict snow or ice and temperatures outside were a good way above zero, but it was bloomin’ cold in Studio One last Monday ! I am also aware that to look after all the computers and other electrical wizardry that keeps us on air, we can hardly have heaters in there pumping out hot air for fear of it all over-heating and you are more likely to find the air con gently flowing through the building at any time of year – lovely on a hot summer’s day !!

But I felt chilly. Very chilly ! During my two hours on air, I came up with a theory that with hardly anybody working in the Eastgate Centre this winter, there was no residual body heat in the place and of course less lighting contributing to the overall temperature either, not to mention those fierce bellowing heaters you sometimes get in shop doorways to tempt customers in from the cold at this time of year ! So I guess the whole centre was starting to level out with the 4 ,5 or 6 degrees in the car park … or it could be that I was feeling it more because I am getting old, like you do !!

Of course, there is a big benefit of getting older – and that is an evergrowing collection and knowledge of great music from the good old days to dip into on the show each Monday from 5pm. To hear what I came up with (and listen to my teeth chattering between songs!) head for “Listen Again” – or if it is Saturday afternoon when you read this, catch the ‘Repeat Play’ on Gateway at 5pm. I’ll be back live on Monday at 7pm – with gloves, scarf and a woolly hat on standby !!
